ARTIST STATEMENT

“A message to all members of Sotia Central. The new Fiji Interim Government has issued regulations requiring publishers to first submit all content to Government officials for clearance before publishing it. Because you, not we, generate this content, we are unable to comply. Accordingly, sotiacentral.com has been taken down until further notice.”

In Australia, the notion of free speech is taken for granted. As a kailoma woman who has been born and raised in Australia I have not been silenced by my government. My words have not been censored. My images have not been torn down. My house has not been broken into. I have not seen my friends and family beaten by those who serve to protect the sovereignty of my nation. This work is made in honour of the courageous Fijian women and men who continue the struggle for peace, democracy and freedom.

….hear the word at My mouth and give them warning…

protect me….

…until further notice.
