Margaret Aull’s large scale mixed media work, For Fiji, Ever Fiji was purchased for the City Art Collection of Manukau City Council. It was shown in the annual survey exhibition of Fresh Gallery Otara, FRESH09 featuring recent acquisitions and highlights from the 2009 exhibition programme.

Sangeeta Singh and Luisa Tora presented a joint presentation at Manukau’s recent Pecha Kucha Night held at the historic Metro Theatre in Mangere East.

Their presentation was called, PR Application #679

They were in a steller line-up including Leilani Kake, Shigeyuki Kihara, Nigel Borrel, Terry Koloamatangi Klavenes, Angela Tiatia, Edgar Melitao, Tanu Gago, Vinesh Kumaran, James McCarthy and Hone Ngata aka DJ Poroufessor.

Torika was in New Zealand briefly to participate in a workshop on militarism and the Pacific at Victoria University in Wellington where she finally got her hands on the Fiji Times publication!

Torika Bolatagici‘s photographic work, Protect Me (2009) was donated to the Tautai Trust Tsunami Relief Auction held at Webb’s on Tuesday 20 October. It was sold to a private buyer and 100% of the funds raised were donated to the Samoa Tsunami Relief Fund.

Luisa Tora and Ema Tavola have been invited by the Pacific Research Cluster to speak at An Oceanic Imagination: A Tribute to the Life and Mind of ‘Epeli Hau’ofa taking place on Wednesday 21 October at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Our panel is called Visions of building Pacific representations through the Arts.

Roland Williams grew up being constantly reminded to appreciate old school music. He’s on a rugby scholarship from Fiji at Kelston Boys High School in West Auckland and is hoping to extend his stay till 2010 so he can attend university and study psychology. Winning with over 50% of the vote, Roland Williams rocked it with the Gregory Abbott classic ‘Shake You Down’ and took out the final heat of Homai Te Pakipaki 2009 on Maori Television.
